Adopt-A-Coral Program
The Coral Restoration Foundation (CRF) members are stewards of the most diverse and spectacular coral reefs in the United States. These reefs are suffering from the increasing pressures from climate change, boat groundings, water quality degradation, storms, the overgrowth of algae, and ecosystem decline.
CRF’s Adopt-a-Coral program provides much needed support to the offshore coral nursery and reef restoration programs being undertaken by CRF staff and volunteers. These living reefs off the Florida Keys are vital sources of habitat for marine life, and provide for the economic needs of our coastal communities.
For as little as $50 you can adopt a coral in your own name, or you can gift one to another person or organization. Your Adopt-a-Coral donation will go directly to the Coral Restoration Foundation, and the money will be used to produce more corals and replant them on the reef.
Adopt-A-Coral
For only $50, you can adopt a Staghorn coral nubbin at CRF’s offshore nursery in the Florida Keys. We will send the recipient an electronic certificate, and provide bi-annual pictures and measurements of your coral.
For $100 you can adopt a one-year-old Staghorn coral that has been transplanted to one of our restoration sites. We will send you an electronic certificate, a digital picture of your coral at the restoration site, and the GPS coordinates for the exact location of your coral.
The combined planting of selected corals helps restore the diverse and spectacular reefs protected in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. Someday you (or the recipient of your gift) could snorkel or dive through the very field of coral that your gift helped to create!
By supporting the restoration of coral reef ecosystems, Adopt-a-Coral assists those dependent upon the sea to preserve their culture, educate eco-tourists, sustain conservation efforts, and provide for their economic needs. Coral can be propagated, and some species grow at surprising rates. Adopt-a-Coral plants finger sized coral nubbins that are carefully removed from existing colonies at the nursery. After a year of grow out at one of our offshore nurseries, the yearling corals are transplanted to
